The first two videos below were made in the late 1990’s. I revisited these wheels with the piece, Golden Flower in 2011, which I have now added as a video below, also candlelit in similar vein. They are thrown, joined, carved, pierced, slip decorated, golded and carefully assembled.

Some of the ideas arise from the “hidden Buddha” shrines in Japan, the Japanese gold screens of old, pulling the last light of the day into the depths of the house, and the ever so slow unwinding of the forces in a thrown pot, as it shrinks from the wet, freshly thrown state to its high-fired stoneware finish.
